The Vatican Goes Green with a New Solar Plant

In keeping with its holier-than-thou attitude, the Vatican recently announced plans for a 100-watt solar farm that will make the Vatican’s project Europe’s largest solar plant. The world’s smallest country plans to be an energy exporter when the 740-acre solar plant farm is completed in 2014, as it will generate nearly six times the amount of energy used by the Vatican.

Pope Benedict is a staunch supporter of environmental causes, and in 2005, updated the seven “social” sins to include polluting the environment. The Vatican will benefit from Italy’s solar incentives that include requiring local utilities to buy sun power at above-market prices, which apparently does not fall into the category of the deadly sin of greed.
